Team Spain was founded in 2020 by Dr. Carmen Nofuentes who volunteered by herself for one year at Operation International’s base in Ghana. The team continues to carry out an annual mission to several of OI's bases in Africa.

About our team

Dr. Nofuentes spent all of 2021 at the Holy Family Hospital of Techiman, Ghana, where various OI teams have collaborated in the past.

For one month in 2021, Dr. Pilar Iskra, Dr. Cristina Bernabeu, Dr. Beatriz Madrid, and the nurse, Carlos Bernabeu, also worked with the Holy Family staff. They performed more than 200 operations, including:

General surgery (hernias, breast surgery, amputations)
Abdominal surgery (appendectomies, cholecistectomies, intestinal resections, etc)

In September 2022, the team went back with 2 more nurses and an anesthesiologist, and they stayed there for a short surgery campaign of 12 days.
