Team Spain’s origins began in 2021 when team leader Dr. Carmen Nofuentes spent the entire year at Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, Ghana. During her time there, Dr. Nofuentes was joined by Dr. Pilar Iskra, Dr. Cristina Bernabeu, Dr. Beatriz Madrid, and nurse Carlos Bernabeu. The group performed more than 200 general and abdominal surgery operations in just one month.

The next year, the team returned to Ghana for their first official medical mission with more volunteers. They now complete annual missions to Operation International bases in Africa.
