Karim Sillah is a consultant general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals in the West Midlands. Mr Sillah is passionate about surgical training in the UK and in West Africa and is one of the lead surgeons of a charity group (Afro-European Medical Research Network) that provides free healthcare and operations for vulnerable people in Sierra Leone and Kenya. He is actively involved in improving healthcare and training in West Africa through regional conference presentations at the West Africa College of Surgeons conferences, voluntary mentoring of trainees for their college membership examinations and capacity building through technical training during volunteer field expeditions in heavily deprived communities.
