My name is Elaine Duong, RN, BSN-Clinical Nurse III and preceptor for VMC new grad/RN students. I worked for Valley Medical Center in Progressive Care unit/Step down for 7 years and now I am working in the Care Management department. Since I was young, I wanted to grow up to do something meaningful and to make a difference in children’s lives. I especially wanted to make an impact with vulnerable children in third world countries. This has been my lifetime passion. In 2016, I had a wonderful opportunity to volunteer with a surgery mission team which gave me lifetime memories. Working along with the doctors, nurses, family, patients and other volunteers, was rewarding and brought me so much joy. While volunteering, I saw the joy that people had as they shared smiles and tears in knowing the mission impacted his/her life. This has been keeping me wanting to do more. Working as a nurse for more than 7 years, I want to continue what I love to do and be able to make an impact on patients who I served, as well as the underprivileged people in third world countries. Joining a Medical Mission brings me joy to my heart. Seeing a child smile, I am fulfilled with happiness. I want to do a Medical Mission while I am able. Therefore, I want to join the Medical Mission team to bring hope, and healing to change lives and to strive for a meaningful life. In particular, I choose to join the cleft lip surgery medical mission team because I know every single child deserves a smile, love, and a better future.
