Operation International's first cardiac team, Team Hearts, finished its second mission with the organization to Guyana in July 2024. The team completed an amazing 13 complex cardiac surgeries, the most completed during a medical mission in its history.
The 13 cases included valve replacement, tumor removal, and bypass surgeries that will give each patient a renewed ability to resume daily life without any pain and, in many of the cases, save their lives.
The Caribbean Heart Institute joined forces with Operation International's Cardiac Team in 2023 to help the group to access even more resources, technical equipment, and critical skillsets. On their first mission with Operation International in 2023, working in partnership with the Caribbean Heart Institute in Georgetown Public Hospital, the team performed eight cardiac surgeries, including coronary artery bypass surgeries and valve replacements.
