After 2 years of no travel, Team ENT launched their sixth mission to Guatemala during the Omicron surge of the global pandemic. This added another challenge to an already grueling mission.
Despite the challenges, Team ENT performed more than 70 head and neck operations and kept both the patients and team safe from COVID.
The 2022 mission was the most challenging year in terms of logistics for Team ENT.
It included screening more than 400 patients, including COVID testing, to assure safety of both the patient's and the team. Patient's required COVID tests again prior to surgery to allow for safe anesthesia. In the end, the team was able to accomplish a successful mission and despite the high transmission rates, there was no team member or patient who contracted COVID during admission.
