During Team Kids' 13th mission and sixth visit to Ghana, the team completed 52 surgeries and and screened 1,110 women for cervical and breast cancer. Plus, 20 nurses and midwives were trained in VIA and clinical breast exams.
Team Kids was founded in 2008 by Colleen Brennan, Cindy Steele, MD, Stephanie Cohen MD, and Kathleen O’Hara MD.
During their trip, the team worked on setting up and running a cervical cancer prevention and early detection program for rural women in three rural clinics. Additionally, they ran a breast cancer screening clinic and teaching women about self-breast examinations. This program is the first of its kind for rural communities in this area of Ghana.
